The San Jacinto Neighborhood
The San Jacinto
Neighborhood is designated by the City of Galveston as the area bounded by
Broadway, Seawall & 23rd Street. The San Jacinto neighborhood forms the shape of
a triangle between 23rd Street, Broadway (Avenue J) and Seawall Boulevard.
Included in the neighborhood, is the
Lost Bayou Historic
District
which has its boundaries at 16th and 21st
Streets, and Avenues K and M ˝. Additionally on Avenue N 1/2 between 2oth and
21street. As the neighborhood with the longest frontage on the Gulf of Mexico,
San Jacinto was also the heart of the development on the beach, and Galveston’s
tourist industry. When the
1900 storm devastated
Galveston, San Jacinto took the worst hit! It is estimated that the land area of
this neighborhood extended about four blocks further south than it currently
does, because that much of it was reclaimed by the Gulf, during the storm. The
houses, and other structures, nearest the beach suffered more complete
destruction than in any other neighborhood! As this debris was piled up, and
pushed inland, it formed a natural breakwater, or seawall, that eventually saved
the rest of the city from more complete destruction.
GARDEN FOUNTAIN BRICKS

Anyone interested to
dedicate a brick to a loved one or
someone, all it takes is a $50
donation to SJNA and we will have a
brick engraved for you with your
personal message or names. Space is
limited on the brick. There are
samples of bricks engraved around
the fountain to view and appreciate.
The donation helps with maintaining
the fountain and the garden
surroundings. If anyone is
interested, you can contact Alan
Kamen: akamen3@Comcast. net and he
will assist you with it and give you
any details you need. You can
pick your brick and location from
around the fountain while they last!

The Galveston Police Department East Isle Communities will be
implementing a new strategy to directly combat the street crime
within the East Isle Community. PCRT – Proactive Community
Response Team will be put in place as a frontline response to
the street level crimes which impact that community.
Officer Tommy Maffei # 418 East Isle
Operation Bureau/ SWAT

Tmaffei@cityofgalveston.org
Work # 409-765-3600 Day Time Cell # 281-734-0931
Night Time Cell # 281-755-1969
The Proactive Community Response Team will consist of a special team
of East Isle Officers working in a tactical manner to complete
one goal: make the streets of Galveston within the East Isle
Community safer places. The PCRT will target all forms of
crimes, from petty thieves, drug dealers and users, car
burglars, pan handlers, and prostitutes.
The PCRT will incorporate a new way to fight crime, utilizing a
real-time Crime Map. The Crime Map will be a satellite map of
the East Isle Communities. When a patrol officer gets a report
he will pin the map at the address where the offense occurred
with a designated color, each criminal offense having its own
color, EX: Burglary of Vehicle – blue, Burglary of Habitation
–green, Narcotic Complaint – yellow, Transient Nusance-
white
